Massachusetts Allergen Video – More time needed

Posted on February 4, 2011 by

Massachusetts Law required all food safety managers watch the Allergen Video by February 1, 2011. However, with any new legislation, there has to be a grace period.

Our legislation of no texting and driving for teenagers has our flashing billboards on highways awash with reminders. H & R Block has taken out ads on paying taxes early and its’ never to early to purchase Valentine’s Sweets.

Because many restaurants have enough to do just staying above water, the Allergen Video has caused confusion in the industry. Where to view it, how to log on and what about the pesky credit card transactions.

Boards of health also have their hands full just monitoring restaurants let alone inquiring about a video. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen the video, and it makes good points about preparing foods for those with allergies.

My soapbox today, is give restaurants some time. How about 60 days. Let the restaurants finish shoveling snow.
