A Fremont [CA] health food company is recalling 16 products after state health inspectors found the company’s factory infested with mice.
San Francisco Herb & Natural Food Co factory at 47444 Kato Road was closed indefinitely July 11 by state inspectors who said they discovered a pervasive infestation of mice.
The rodents were burrowing and nesting in containers of tea and spices, which the company sells in stores throughout California and on the Internet, state health officials said. Droppings were found everywhere in the 150,000-square-foot factory.
Most of the recalled products were sold online.
They include specific production lots of whole fennel seeds, lavender flower, paprika sweet powder, gunpowder green tea, organic whole rose hips and thyme. Exterminators are cleaning the factory, a company spokesman said. No date has been set for reopening.
The company said it “is saddened by the recent discovery of a mouse infestation at its Fremont warehouse,” and that it has “taken immediate steps to isolate and remedy the problem.”
Anyone with questions about the recall should call the company at (510) 770-1215 ext. 115.
