The Indiana Department of Environmental Management fined a Randolph County hog farmer for dumping 200,000 gallons of hog manure onto an open field, Indiana Public Media reported October 17. The manure from the farm eventually made its way into a local waterway, washed downstream, and killed more than 100,000 fish. The farmer must pay a $1,000 fine and plant 550 trees. The Department of Natural Resources could implement a separate penalty for killing the fish.
